It turns out VMware is listening to many IT professionals out there. Until now, to become VMware certified you had to go through their training course. For many trying to become VMware certified, it was a large out-of-pocket expense. Most companies are not able to reimburse for the training. A lot of IT professionals also wanted to advance in their careers to a virtualization position.
Now we have what we all have been wanting for so long. Here are the new certifications:
- VMware Certified Associate – Cloud (VCA-Cloud)
- VMware Certified Associate – Data Center Virtualization (VCA-DCV)
- VMware Certified Associate – Workforce Mobility (VCA-WM)
- VMware Certified Associate – Network Virtualization (VCA-NV)
Each of the Associate level exams has a link to an official self-paced VMware training. I will be taking a look at the Data Center Virtualization self-paced training for my own benefit.
If you have been working with VMware at your current gig, studying for these exams should not be that difficult. Based on looking at the Data Center Virtualization objectives, a lot of keywords are “Identify”, “Explain”, and “Differentiate”. There is only one objective in which you have to “Apply” the technology to resolve challenges.
In my opinion, the VMware Certified Associate level exams are the entry level certifications. This is where you begin to learn the fundamentals which will help transition you to the Professional level certifications.
